Ironically, tell your friends your home is wired up for distributed media, weather-linked heating and general automated goodness, and they’ll still be more impressed by whatever swanky touchscreen remote you’ve spent untold hundreds on. Lagotek are hoping to save your pride and your wallet with their HIP Modes home control Sideshow gadget that runs on the relatively-affordable iPhone and iPod Touch.
Lagotek worked with Ikanos Consulting to get Vista’s Sideshow working on the Apple devices, using a technology they’ve called Go Gadgets. As a web-app you won’t need to hack your PMP or cellphone to get it running, and the same software works with Windows Mobile, Windows CE, and J2ME, and allows remote access to Windows SideShow gadgets via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or GPRS/EDGE/3G.
HIP Modes are Lagotek’s version of home automation macros, giving single-touch control of everything from lights and music through to temperature control, distributed video and security.
