Apple has reportedly begun talks with a view to launching the iPhone in Thailand.
Reuters this morning is reporting that the company has begun discussions with Thailand's Advanced Info Service (AIS) with a view to signing the latter firm up to be the iPhone's netowrk partner in the country. The news emerges shortly after reports last week which claimed talks to launch the iPhone in China have so far stalled.
"We are negotiating on details, including a revenue sharing standard. Apple needs a local operator to promote iPhone," Prattana Leelapanang, assistant vice president for AIS's wireless business marketing, told Reuters.
Apple has also initiated talks with NTT DoCoMo and Softbank with a view to releasing the device in Japan.
A release of the product into that country could be a major step forward for iPhone sales, as a recent survey conducted by JR Tokai Express Research claims 85.2 per cent of respondents had heard of the iPhone, and of those, 51.7 per cent said they "might like to buy it" if the handset went on sale in Japan.
