iPod products for musical creatives

A host of iPod-compatible products from some of the leading names in pro audio are making their debut at the huge NAMM trade show in the US, including decks, studio mixers and portable PAs.

New Made for iPod products have appeared from Alesis and Numark.

Alesis introduced MultiPort at the NAMM trade show. This small device allows for direct recording to an iPod or a computer and offers built-in level meters, headphone monitoring and integrated iPod controls. it also offers 1/4in inputs and stereo outputs, a microphone input and allows for iPod playback while recording at the same time. Also, as previously reported Alesis introduced its TransActive Mobile PA system for iPod.

Also new from Alesis comes a 16-track USB mixing desk that also integrates an iPod dock. The solution offers 100 studio quality 28-bit audio effects, a built-in limiter and integrates on-board iPod controls for recording sessions directly to the Apple media device, while also enabling users to connect to a computer via USB for a fill mix-down of recorded sounds. The iMultiMix 16 USB also offers a 3-band per channel EQ, guitar and line inputs and records in CD quality (44.1 or 48kHz).

Numark introduced a heavy-duty travelling case for the iDJ2 iPod DJ mixing desk, and also launched the TTi, a USB turntable that's equipped with an iPod dock and enables users to record vinyl played on the turntable directly to the iPod, or to a computer (Mac or PC) for digitising existing vinyl collections.
